Since 2013 we have worked on the development for a framework for Product Social Metrics. Two years ago, we transformed the Roundtable setting into a Partnership.
Starting 2022 this Partnership will transform into the Social Value Initiative. This transition does not just represent a new name. While we initially focused on products, we realized that our partner companies use the method in fact mainly per brand, per business unit, or even broader. Soon we will publish whitepapers describing how our metrics improve portfolio assessment and improve reporting.
This finding prompts us to broaden the scope, so we cover all applications that focus on the entire value chains. So, in stead of talking about product social Impact assessment we will be referring to social value chain assessment, hence the name Social Value Initiative. This broadening of scope also means we will be less focused on what is often called Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA), although there are of course many overlaps and connections.
Next to the broader scope, we are more and more convinced that generating social value is becoming a key concept in new policies, such as the upcoming Due Dilligence legislations, the Taxonomy, the Integrated reporting (IIRC) development and of course to need to link to the SDGs. While a partnership concept is great to support a small group, we need to expand our reach and develop a community of practice which is facilitated but not controlled by a small group of core partners. This is why we invite you all to join the Social Value Community, where you can initiate new initiatives, new working groups and of course connect to your peers and others. Access to the Social Value Community is free of charge and open to anyone who wants to contribute to further developing the concept of Social Value Chain Assessment. Welcome.
While there are many changes. One thing stays the same. The initiative and the community is managed and facilitated by the Core partner companies and PRé. Core partner companies are also funding the initiative. If you are interested to become a Core Partner, please mail info@social-value.org
